growing my own seeds in Aerogarden spacesaver 6...

UPDATE: NO, TOTALLY KILLED THE SECOND BATCH OF SEEDS, THE BASIL & CATGRASS...BACK TO TRYING TO GROW THEIR ROMAINE LETTUCE SEED PODS...THE THING IS EASY TO WASH THOUGH, & MAKES A NICE LIGHT...MY CIRCADIAN RYTHM IS INTERESTING SINCE WE BROUGHT THIS GLOWING ORB INTO OUR HOME...INTERESTING...(LIKE I'M UP AT 8 AM FOR NO REASON...)

So, if you live in Canada, your home may be too cold to get your Aerogarden going properly... Mine was...Plus, American seeds tend to be smaller & more fragile than Canadian ones, so using their $19.99 seed pods, with only five seeds per pod seemed like an unlikely gamble, seeing as I had already killed the herb batch that came with the Aerogarden...
So, I put the whole unit into a Feline Funhouse I had lying around & zippered it shut so the warmth would stay in... I bought some hardy basil seeds from Canadian Tire at about $1.79 (& some catgrass seeds which haven't sprouted yet, so...)
I poured the entire contents of the basil seeds into four of the seed pods, right on top of the herbs that failed...The last two pods got the catgrass seeds...
The basil came up really well...here's a close-up...

So...put your Aerogarden into something where it can stay really warm & the seed pods you screwed up with the first time definitely work if you just drop in a bunch of new seeds... I believe in over-seeding then thinning later- you up your chances of getting something to germinate...p.s. I have heard the Miracle-Gro works in place of nutrient tabs...Haven't tried it yet though...(but have had success with Miracle-Gro liquid with normal plants...)
